The Ace & The Relay Pieces

White Square Piece with Square Symbol (Ace)

In this example, the Red player has already completed a Diamond pattern on the previous turn. Before making a normal move, the White player must first perform a Break by moving the Red Circle piece bearing the Circle symbol one space upward, breaking the Red player's pattern. After completing the Break, the White player immediately performs a normal move by moving the White Square piece bearing the Square symbol one space downward, as indicated by the arrow, completing the Square pattern.

White Ace Piece formed a Square Pattern

In this example, the White Square piece bearing the Square symbol, which moved last to complete the Square pattern, is designated as the Ace. The remaining three participating pieces—the White Square pieces bearing the X, Triangle, and Circle symbols—are collectively designated as the Relay. During the Break, the Ace is protected and may not be moved. Instead, the opponent must select one of the Relay pieces to relocate, breaking the pattern before making a normal move.

Breaking the Pattern by Moving One of the Relay Pieces

In this example, the Red player selects one of the Relay pieces—the White Square piece bearing the Circle symbol—and moves it one space upward into the vacant space, breaking the White player's Square pattern. After completing the Break, the Red player may then proceed with a normal move.
